Treibor Mawlong

The four panel comic page is a situation experienced during many railway journeys from Guwahati, on my way to Kolkata and many more such to come outside my home state. The interrogation and harassment prompted merely on the basis of how I look (I am a Khasi from Meghalaya) is a clear indicator of one of the many kinds of social exclusions one has to face. There are many stories that I’ve heard from friends and families facing similar abuse. My comic strip is just one example of these experiences.

Treibor Mawlong completed his BFA and MFA from Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharati Santiniketan in 2010 and 2012, respectively. Mawlong is inspired by folklores, personal experiences and memories which often become themes of his artworks. He has been experimenting with formats of picture books and graphic novels, often using drawing as his primary mode of expression. He lives and works in Shillong, Meghalaya, India.
